After a long tiring day of mathematical adventuring, Finn the Human and Jake the Dog make their journey to their tree home. They've gone through the process countless times before, but for some reason this night in particular seems a bit more eerie than usual. Finn didn't like how the birds weren't chirping their late-night songs as they passed by. He knew something was off, terribly off.
“Yo, Jake.” He asked his best friend as they jumped over an old fallen log. Jake looked up at him.
“Yeah man, what's up?” Finn noticed that the hairs on the back of his friend's neck were bristled straight up, not a good sign. Maybe he sensed something and wasn't telling him.
“Can you feel something...whack here?”
“...Yeah...I felt it as soon as we entered the forest. Sorry I didn't tell you, I didn't want you freaking out like a little candy girl.” So his suspicions were right, but he most certainly wasn't some little candy girl!
“Man you know you can tell me anything. I can handle any baddie that tries messing with us!” Jake sighed heavily and looked ahead again, worry filling his eyes.
“I know, but that doesn't mean I can't look out for my bu—Finn?” Finn had abruptly stopped dead in his tracks and appeared to be in deep concentration, looking every which way. Jake jogged over to his human brother, ready to smack the jam out of him if he didn't tell him what was up. “Finn, what in the name of Glob are you doing?” Finn raised a hand to silence him, turning his head as far behind him as possible. Faintly in the distance, the sound of old leaves crunching echoed back to the two adventurers, not a soul in sight. Finn turned back to Jake.
“Did you hear that??” His voice hitched up at least a few octaves as he felt his blood run cold in fear. Jake was visibly shaking as he answered.
“Ye-yeah, man. I heard...”
Finn pulled his sword out as he swiveled around in a circle, hacking invisible attackers. Jake joined him quickly and super-sized his fists into the size of boulders, his back flat against Finn's. The two began walking slowly, their eyes darting in every direction for any signs of whatever it was that was scaring them. There was only silence as they scanned the area.
After what felt like hours of constant watch, the two finally parted, unsuccessful in finding anything. They both breathed in a sigh of relief and started nervously laughing. Finn sheathed his sword as he and Jake began walking again.
“You-you know it was probably some animal just trying to get some food.”
“Heh-heh, yeah. I feel really stupid right now for flipping like that.” Finn laughed at the magical dog and mockingly put his hands up on his head to make antlers.
“I'm a deer looking for food! I'm gonna scare the nuts out of Finn and Jake!” Jake snorted at his friend and was about to join in when his eyes locked in behind Finn, wide and scared. Finn didn't notice Jake's strange behavior and started jumping around.
“Blerraagghhh, I'm a de--”
“FINN WATCH OUT!!”
LOL I WONDER WHAT IT WAS THAT JAKE SAW
